Real Life Burnout
Ever play EA’s Burnout? You know, that racing game where you race through traffic-filled cities all over the world? Well, I think I’ve just found their inspiration.
On an August morning in 1978, French filmmaker Claude Lelouch mounted a gyro-stabilized camera to the bumper of a Ferrari 275 GTB and had a friend, a professional Formula 1 racer, drive at breakneck speed through the heart of Paris. No streets were closed, for Lelouch was unable to obtain a permit.
The video by itself is crazy. But while it isn’t new, the Google Maps/Video mashup of it at bhendrix.com is. Watch the video while an animated Google map maps out the Ferrari’s route through Paris. Awesomes.
Check it out here.
