Good job NY Post
The NY Post certainly thought it was clever this morning. They put a speech bubble on a picture of the corpse of recently killed Al Qaeda Iraq leader, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. At first I thought it was photoshopped, but unfortunately, the cover is real.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I have no sympathy for the poor bastard. I’m glad he’s gone from the world and no longer able to spread his hate and terror. But seriously, WTF? This cover is so offensive for so many reasons. Sure, all the other papers have his mug on the front cover, but they didn’t resort to such disrespectful vulgarity.
First of all, putting a speech bubble on a corpse is just really disrespectful. It’s what children and misguided vandals do. Speech bubbles are reserved for cartoons and humorous pictures. This is neither. Second of all, “Warm up the virgins!” Seriously? I’m not muslim but I find that highly offensive–not because of the word virgin, but because it’s highly insulting to their religious beliefs.
I can’t believe someone actually approved that. That’s just awful. Bad form NY Post, bad form.
