Zaptones
Screw the smell-tone. The wave of the future of ringtones are zaptones. Unsatisfied with vibration as a “silent” alert for incoming phone calls (as they sometimes make a slight buzzing sound), Motorola has patented a new way of letting you know you’re getting a call: a slight electric shock.
The system, not unlike the massage and weight loss systems currently available on the market today, uses a small pad containing electrodes that are wirelessly linked to a handset. When an event occurs on the handset, an electric potential is placed across the electrodes, stimulating the skin and underling muscles, thus alerting the wearer.
Now, I understand that sending a small electrical impulse into your body may not make a sound. But what about when the user yelps and screams because his phone just electrocuted him? That might be a tad awkward in a business setting. Just a tad.
