One Red Paperclip
I swear. People come up with all kinds of crazy ideas on the internet, whether it’s a massively popular auction site, an online repository for home made videos, or a revolutionary marketing idea. But this is one of the craziest I’ve seen.
My name is Kyle MacDonald and I am trying to trade one red paperclip for a house. I started with one red paperclip on July 12th, 2005 and I am making a series of trades for bigger or better things. My current item up for trade is one year in Phoenix.
In one year, this guy has traded his one red paperclip for a truck, a recording contract, and his latest trade: a year’s worth of rent for a house in Phoenix. That’s pretty damn impressive. He has also set up forums for his readers to trade less lucrative objects with each other.
Speaking of trades, the Times had an article about a new trading website called Zunafish. The site enables you to trade all those old cds and movies in your house that are just sitting around the house with other people’s unwanted media–what a novel idea. It sounds like it could catch on. (Yes, this Zunafish paragraph is only vaguely related to the red paperclip, but I was too lazy to write a whole other post for it, so… there you go.)
