$1500 Trash Cans in Chinatown
It’s initiatives like this that make you question exactly who is in charge of the city’s finances.
On Friday, March 31st, City Officials installed the first of 48 new trash receptacles in Chinatown. Sure, they’re sturdier, prettier, and bigger. But they also cost $1500 each. That’s a little much for a garbage can in my book.
Chinatown is the first New York City neighborhood to get these new cans because of it’s dirty reputation. I don’t disagree that Chinatown needs to be cleaned up. I, for one, welcome more trash receptacles in Chinatown. But do they need to cost $1500 each? I’m thinking a “regular” $500 would do the job just as well without the extra grand. But what do I know about waste management?
I think the extra $1000 per garbage can should go into researching how to get rid of the perpetual fish smell that floats around the neighborhood. Now that would be money well spent.
